We joined Cream O’Naise and broke a new world record… plus we donated over 4km of sandwiches to causes in need in the process.
Cream O’Naise, has successfully broken a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the Longest line of sandwiches, measuring in at a staggering 4004.43 kilometres.
“We did it!” says Clover’s Senior Brand Manager: Edith Molepo.
“After months and months of planning, awesome weather and a fantastic team alongside us, we are absolutely thrilled to have secured our first ever GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title!”
The current record, achieved in 2013, is held by Spain’s Nocilla brand. Its sandwiches reached a length of 3,865.78 metres. They were filled with Nocilla chocolate-and-hazelnut spread. The average length of the sandwich was 50cm and there were 7,790 sandwiches in total.
The envious achievement was made on the 3rd of March at Soweto’s flagship Maponya Mall with hundreds of people in attendance. The record breaking attempt was made possible by using 500 litres of Cream O’Naise mayonnaise, 8100 50cm baguettes, 2600 kg of grated Clover cheese and 800kg of lettuce.

South African TV and radio personality Somizi Mhlongo kept energy levels high throughout the day as baguette after baguette hit the table, edging closer to the target, right up until the official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS adjudicator, Paulina Sapinska announced the end of the successful attempt at approximately 12h30 that afternoon.
Cream O’Naise, Clover’s first mayonnaise that contains real Clover cream was the real hero of the hour, trending on Twitter at #CreamONaiseGWR supplemented by promoters and entertainers that kept a massive crowd entertained throughout the day.
“We cannot thank our assembly team of Clover employees, our suppliers and partners enough in what can only be described as a brilliant, endorphin enducing, never to be forgotten kind of day,” says Edith.
“We are incredibly grateful to the immense precision planning from all parties involved, and to the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS adjudicator.”
After breaking the record, the Cream O’Naise team sectioned out a large portion of the sandwiches and shared it amongst children at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, CHOC and The Gift of the Givers.
“At Clover we’re proudly South African, a local household name for more than 100 years. We’re delighted to add another South African record for one of our newly launched brands, Clover Cream’O Naise to the famous GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS books,” Edith adds.
